Technology has always played a crucial role in human life, but it has gained more ground in the 21st century, affecting how we live life, connect, work, and even think.

The history of technology extends back to the beginning of human history. And, early humans also built tools from stones and bones to hunt and survive. The earliest such technologies were the discovery of fire, invention of the wheel, and agriculture; all of which fundamentally altered civilizations. Fast forward to the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century, and history saw the enormous leap in technological developments through steam engines, electricity, and mechanized production.
The 20th century had gifted the world information technology, telecommunications and space exploration. The computer and then the internet were invented in the second half of that century, and from that point forward innovation exploded, leading us to what we know today as the digital revolution.

And technology has permeated every facet of our life. The ability to control devices with voice commands has become widespread as smart home devices (e.g., automated thermostats, lighting systems, and security cameras) can all now be remotely managed from smartphones. Things have changed a lot with the technology revolutionized education, which is much more open and personalized. Platforms such as Coursera, Khan Academy and Udemy help mould the students regardless of their background by offering lessons remotely and at convenient intervals. Books and classrooms are being replaced by virtual classrooms, online degrees, and e-books.
Interactive tools like smartboards, educational apps, and gamified learning methods are engaging students in exciting and innovative ways. AI can evaluate the performance of students and generate personalized learning plans to address individual learning requirements.
Technology has played a key role in ensuring educational continuity, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, by enabling remote learning and digital collaboration tools.
Healthcare and Medical Technologies
Technology has brought unprecedented innovations to the healthcare services across the globe. Telemedicine, wearable health monitors and mobile health apps enable patients to consult with doctors and monitor their health without going to clinics. Electronic health records (EHR)atiques are not only a more efficient way of managing care, but also achieve more accurate information.
Revolutionising treatment methods, robotic surgeries, 3D-printed prosthetics and AI-powered diagnoses are some of the latest leaps in advances. In some instances, AI algorithms can analyze medical images and identify diseases such as cancer more accurately and quickly than human doctors.
Additionally, biotechnology contributes immensely to the advancement of vaccines and therapies for many diseases, most notably for the rapid development of COVID-19 vaccines via mRNA technology.

Even as portions of the globe rush ahead with high-speed internet and sophisticated hardware, others exist with chronic deficiencies of access to electricity and basic connectivity. We need to bridge between this gap to provide for equality of the technological advancement.
The Future of Technology
Exciting innovations await in the road ahead for technology. Quantum computing, still nascent, may one day transform industries by solving complex problems impossible for classical computers. The metaverse: AR and VR are helping to improve the world of entertainment, education and work from home.
